Top Recommended IMAT Preparation Books | 2017

Thinking of medical School in Italy for the next academic year, you are in the right place.
I guess you know everything about the IMAT test already, and if not, again, you are in the right place.
This post deals with the most recommended preparation books for the IMAT test.
Remember, what you need is a good base for theoretical knowledge and then, practice, practice and more practice.

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry and Chemical Reacticity

Chemistry is also an important topic for the IMAT exam. The type of question they like to ask are more informative rather than calculative. It means, they want to see that you have some basic and solid understanding of Chemistry and chemical reactivities. So, this book, Chemistry and chemical reactivity is a great book; it is well explained. I also used this book during the 1st year while I took chemistry. (Italia

BIOLOGY

1. Campbell Biology

Campbell Biology is an amazing text book, in fact, I used it 4 years ago preparing to my IMAT examination when it clarified every topic the IMAT specified for biology. The text is simple and well explained and the drawings complete your understanding. (Italia

2. Molecular Biology Of The Cell

which is also a great academic text book which I have used during the first year's biology course. In my opinion, this book is a bit more complicated compared to the Campbell so I chose to rank it as the 2nd place in my recommended books. (Italia)

PRACTICE

BMAT 700

This book contains practice questions to the BMAT exam which is quite similar to the IMAT exam, in fact, Cambridge composed both exams. I used the older version of this book named BMAT 400, and I must say it is a great book for practicing (Italia).

Thinking skills

A great book with great value for the IMAT preparation. Pay attention, this book is Cambridge international examination friendly. I think it's a good small investment for an important part of the exam. (Italia)

PHYSIOLOGY & ANATOMY | optional

Vander's Human Physiology

Physiology, probably the most important pre-clinical subject in medicine, why? It's the basics, the "script" of how every single organ in our body functions and the perfect (or not?) harmony between these organs. It is a must book for every medical and premedical student.

Gray's Anatomy

*HIGHLY RECOMENDED*
Best seller book and one of my personal favorite.
The illustrations, simple explanations and the students consult excess give this book his honorable place with every med student. I can promise you that this book will serve you way beyond the first year of medical school.

    1. Hey there! To your question, some people argue that the MCAT material is much more advanced ie. the science part is much harder. I wouldn't recommend for the IMAT test with the same materials. Good luck

  3. Hi! Thank you for this post. I'm preparing for the IMAT myself and I found your recommendations really useful. Would you recommend any math and physics books? I know there are only a few questions covering these topics but I still want to prepare for this section.
    Thanks!

    1. Hey there! Thank you for your comment.
Regarding your question, you need something "to the point" and not to broad.
I would really recommend www.khanacademy.com for both IMAT-level physics and math. Good luck
