First Year Medicine Books | Review and Recommendations Part 1

Hey everybody,

First of all, congratulation! you are now officially medical students =)

In the first year of medical school you will study some basic science and basic med-school subjects as; Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, Histology, Embryology, Anatomy, Biochemistry etc..

As you know, lectures are important as well as taking notes, however, when you get home when your academic year is over, your book is your best friend. In Part 1 I'll give you the most recommended books for chemistry, biology, physiology and anatomy with my own personal notes.


In general & organic chemistry:


"Chemistry & General reactivity". Very good and recommended book, contains the entire course of basic chemistry for a medical student. I have used this book for my preparation to the IMAT test and it was exactly what I needed for my Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses during the first year of medicine.

Biology:



"The Cell" - In biology you can't really get confused because this book is the best one out there, though, there are lighter and easier ones, but in order to get the best of biology I would recommend this one. To be honest, it's not really important, in my opinion, which edition of the book you will choose, biology is biology. This book, btw, is a best seller.

Physiology:



Physiology is probably, and remember my words, the most important subject in medicine, why? Because physiology is the key, the masterplan of how we work, how every single system in our body works and the harmonic, very fine tuned relationship between those systems. "Vander's" is an amazing book. It touches everything and draw them simple with cartoons, charts and simple explanations.

Anatomy:

 

Best seller, and my personal favorite book. The images, the simple explanations, the students consult excess just give this book his place on every medschool student. I can promise you that this book will serve you way beyond the first year of medical school.
