English-language medical courses
recently started in Italy are a growing phenomenon.
I am a medical student In Pavia studying
in the English course. In this article I will give you a brief description
about the IMAT test, some tips about it and recommended books you should
consider to maximize your learning potential and pass the test successfully.
The IMAT test is a test which created by
Cambridge Assessment.
The test is a pen-and-paper test consisting
of 60 questions which are divided to:
Part I: 30 multiple-choice questions in
general Knowledge and logical Reasoning.
Part II: 30 multiple-choice questions in
Scientific Knowledge (The ability to apply scientific knowledge from school
science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths.)
The scoring system is:
- 1.5 points for each correct answer
- -0.4 points for each wrong answer
- 0 points for a question not answered
The Italian Ministry of Higher
Education and Research (MIUR), stated a minimum passing score in order to apply
for medical school in Italy. The minimum score is 20 points.
Below this mark, you cannot study at any
university in Italy. If you achieve more than 20 points, you are officially a candidate
for studying in the university that you already choose (along with all the
others who pass the test) – this mean that there is an effort needed from you
to pass the IMAT exam with a high mark.
